On July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 mission accomplished a feat that marked the history of humanity forever. For the first time men stood and walked on the moon. History will also remember that the astronauts who made up the crew, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, wore an Omega Speedmaster on their wrists. This mythical watch, nicknamed since Moonwatch, is back in history thanks to this extraordinary mission.
The first watch worn on the Moon
Following the success of this historic space mission, Omega launched a limited edition of the Speedmaster in yellow gold with a burgundy bezel to thank the protagonists who participated in this adventure. A copy was given to President Nixon, Vice President Spiro Agnew, Mission Astronauts and handpicked NASA personnel.
On the occasion of the 50 years of marshalling in 2019, Omega launches a «special 50 years» edition of this historical model under the reference Speedmaster BA 145.022. Edited in 1014 copies, this new edition in gold called «Moonshine» always presents a burgundy bezel on a 42 mm gold case. The movement, meanwhile, is animated by the caliber Master Chronometer 3861 with manual winding.
Everything suggests that this new edition is a potential collector despite a nine lunar price of 32,000 euros.
