In 1848, a small counter is created by Louis Brandt, 23 years old at the time, in the family's villa in Chaux-de-Fonds. The watches coming out of this small couter are produce under the brand name « Louis Brandt »
In 1979, after the death of the founder, the two sons Louis-Paul and César take charge of the manufacture, and take the responsibility of moving to Bienne to industrialize the production lin in the American fashion. In 1880, they launch a first calibre witch a mechanical production, that found great success. This leads Omega to become in 1980 the biggest watch maker with 800 employees and 100,000 watches produced every year.
The company decides to officially rename its Omega in 1894, after the launch of its calibre 19. During the 1899 world exhibition, Omega won the Grand prix for its whole collection.
Omega is known for the robustness and precision of its time pieces, but also to be James Bond's favorite watch. For its 100 year celebration, Omega releases the Seamaster that would soon become an icon of the luxury watch industry. But the biggest bet and achievement of the brand is to equip Buzz Aldring with the watch when he stepped on the moon in 1969. This model was named the Moonwatch, as it was the only watch capable of going to space without having its glass broken.
With this prowess, Omega leaves a definite footprint in the watch industry but also in the history books.
Today it is the 2nd watch maker after Rolex, with a production of over 720 000 pieces.
